This Canadian Goose (Branta canadenis) took over an hour to gain enough confidence to approach me close for some bread in this sanctuary. It then kept getting too close for me to focus from where I was standing - maybe it thought the camera was edible! Here it is inquisitively looking through the tall grass at dusk.
They are a common resident bird in this area. Their white cheeks, ash brown plumage, and black crown make them particularly difficult to photograph in good light and still retain detail in all their feathers. Here it was a lot darker light than it appears and the camera did a good job recording the detail near to sundown.
They are sometimes shot for sport and food, but not here in Surrey, England!
